Mollier h-x diagram

A psychrometric diagram for understanding the properties and processes of moist air.

Mollier h-x diagram
01

How it is used

Air-conditioning engineers use the chart to estimate humidification, heating, cooling and dehumidification processes.

02

Download and interpretation

Use the chart together with applicable engineering equations and verified operating conditions.

Reading a Mollier h-x chart

A Mollier diagram visualises the relationship between the temperature, moisture content and enthalpy of moist air. Engineers use it when analysing heating, cooling, humidification and dehumidification processes in HVAC equipment.

Using the chart in practice

  1. Determine the air state from measured temperature and relative humidity.
  2. Locate the point on the diagram and read the approximate moisture ratio and specific enthalpy.
  3. Plot the required process and check the resulting air state.
  4. Use appropriate calculation software for final sizing and safety-critical decisions.

The diagram is specific to its assumed pressure and units. The archived JPG remains available in the resources section.
